Joe Espinoza
Joe Espinoza is a Los Angeles native that has been practicing cosmetology for over 12 years. He began his career working behind the chair at top rated salons in the South Bay. Taken with his promise and talent, he was recruited by Schwarzkopf to become an educator. For the next 10 years, Joe taught and presented color and styling techniques all over the country to all levels of cosmetologists, from students to experts. All of this did not stop him from working with some of top designers at their respective New York and Los Angeles Fashion Week exhibitions, including Betsey Johnson, Alice & Olivia, and Rodarte. He has also styled for Tessa Thompson, Ashley Tisdale, and Vanessa Hudgens.
By October 2016, Joe left the salon in Hermosa Beach to focus on a new concept: creating a space for hair, art, and photography to come together. He worked in a private studio within an art gallery for six months before hosting his own event, ARTFORM. This event combined fashion by New York-based designer Moon Choi and a large canvas collection by Los Angeles-based artist Jessica Csanky, creating a runway show and art exhibition that was new to the area. By February of 2018, this concept had grown larger than the private studio it was operating within and Joe opened his own storefront called The Gallery. While he worked behind the chair at The Gallery, it became so much more than a hair salon. From The Gallery’s opening, Joe hosted more art, photography, and hair events, focused on mentoring new cosmetologists to become their own brand.
After the closure of The Gallery during the pandemic, Joe moved to Long Beach briefly where he began styling and creative directing high concept campaigns for local thrift and vintage stores.
His life then took him to Chicago, where he currently resides. Upon arrival, he jumped right back into styling and merchandising for local thrift and vintage stores as well as local runway shows. He works with a number of Chicago-based photographers working on editorial concepts, as well as with other Chicago performers and entertainers.
